Shiggajon, Love Potion, Daphne Dawn – releases and concerts

These three more or less new Danish releases should be worth taking note of:

Shiggajon . Fire sange i gul og rød

This is the official release of fire sange, a cd on Singing Knives. Four tracks of ethnopsych / acidfolk. Volcanic tongue writes:

Fantastic new CD on the great Singing Knives label, rapidly becoming one of the UK’s most consistently impressive labels. Shiggajon are a collective based in Denmark that combine lucid string drones with ritualistic atmospheres and a wild free jazz stance. It makes sense that Singing Knives are behind this as there are definite parallels between Shiggajon and the Harappian Night Recordings album, with a lunar field recording quality that would combine Asian-tinged modal run-downs with buzzing Tony Conrad/Bill Breeze-styled vortices of tone. Some tracks orbit the same Cherry/Blackwell fourth world flute/drum exchanges previously explored by Part Wild Horses Mane On Both Sides and if this was British I’d be listing it alongside those guys and John Clyde-Evans’ Fisheye LP as a landmark UK drone side. Still, the European roots make sense, joining the dots between the kinda fluxing folk/psych moves documented by the Ohr label and the contemporary freak scene. Excellent.“

In stock in the pcib-distro. Ligeledes er en 'opsamling' tilgængelig inden for landets grænser, rummende de mest interessante firs minutter af shiggajons produktion. Tilgængelig her til tyve kroner.

Love potion . Ejaculator

This is probably the best Danish hardcore-unit these days – probably ever. Pure testosterone music. Go to their myspace for samples. Ejaculator is available as 7” and cd (including the demo tape). Available through the band. There will be a release-party in Copenhagen the 16th of April, featuring concerts by Dreamers Cloth as well as Love Potion. Of the ep, Lowcut writes:

“Remember that early 90s notorious HK goreflick where an Ebola-infected Anthony Wong goes on a deranged killing spree? Well, that's sorta the image I was left with after listening to these 8 brutal tracks. Over-the-top aggressive speedy hardcore that sets new standards for the K-town scene, can't really remember when I experienced such a sickass explosion of desperate energy. I've witnessed Love Potion many times on a stage, mostly an insane display of chaos and nihilism that I never thought could be captured on vinyl which would give justice to their wild live performances. "Ejaculator" proved me wrong. Dead wrong. This EP is probably the best produced release by any Danish hardcore act. The very best of 80s Boston and Japanese harcore seem to be channelled through Love Potion like a succubus with an unhealthy deathwish. I really like how some of the lyrics reflect the daily life of singer Klaus in tunes like "Welfare Warfare" and "Unholy Smoke", but my fave is probably "We Will Return" about that infamous and semi-legendary support gig the local noise sickies Womanhead (with Klaus on drums) played with Aids Wolf at Lades. No love lost here, haha. Speaking of Lades, get your sorry asses to Love Potion's release party for "Ejaculator" on April 16th! I mean, how can you resist buying a 7" with a kid munching on a cup of cum? Stay tuned for a Love Potion interview in Lowcut.”

Daphne Dawn . The suntan sorrow ep

Four tracks of dense, melodic, and bright dream-pop. Well-produced and well-written, the ep seems to float around in an equilibrium between dramatic, at times awesome, cloudy productions and a somewhat undramatic, untroubled pop feel. This is an unmistakable compliment. The ep can be downloaded for free through last-fm. They will be playing their first gig at Maskineriet in Århus the 17th of April.
