Since starting this blog, I have been wanting to write this Bloated Sasquatch Beer Theatre Audio-post. Back in the days, bsbta was one my primary sources of inspiration to get involved in underground music and diy-culture, and I know I'm not the only one for whom bsbta has meant a lot. Specialising in seriously twisted stuff, bsbta has since 2000 (at that time being Denmark's only proper cd-r-label) showcased, or if you will, created a scene and a sound, collecting musical odds and ends from all over the country (actually all over the world). The sense of playfulness and the lightness of mind characterizing most of the music, combined with the sincerity and ambition of the label profile just had to inspire an entire underclass of Danish anti-musicians, thus having a great impact on the scene today.
Bsbta was started, and is till this day run by, Christian Kann. The label has been closed down (a couple of times?), split up, assembled again and on the whole gone through a lot of changes on its way to its current 200+ release discography, and is today back on track in its orthodox form. For a relatively thorough label-portrait, I refer to this article by Geiger (in Danish) - I couldn't have done it better myself.
This is the first of a series of posts documenting bsbta and thus the scene bsbta has documented, through the releases on bsbta. I will be focusing on the Danish music released on bsbta (that's archaeological value for people interested). There will be a total of five posts in chronological order, starting with compilations and nostalghia, then going into more specific, recent releases.
For now, lets start out with a sampler:

A sampler of early bsbta-stuff. Twisted.
